As you may know, our 2020 Disney vacation was canceled due to the COVID-19 closure. My family and I are currently preparing for our 2021 redo trip coming up. It’s been a bit stressful, which is not normal for Disney planning in my case! But since our 2021 Disney day bags may be looking a little different, I want to take some stress out of your Disney planning with a list of what to include in your park bag this year!
What to Pack in your Park Bag
This is a new REALLY important one to have with you for Disney now days! Masks are required in Disney at all times for all guests 2 and up.
Masks are only allowed to be removed to eat or drink while stationary, in the designated relaxation stations or at the Disney resort pools.
I would recommend having some extra masks for everyone in your park bag. Disney is HOT and it’s inevitable that you will sweat so having some extras on hand to change out during the day may be nice!
Plus you never know what could happen, especially with children… or husbands. A mask could get lost, it could get soaked on Splash Mountain, the options are endless so pack some extra masks!
This isn’t something new for me, but some people may not be as big of a germ freak as I am! Be sure to have hand sanitizer on hand to kill some germs continuously throughout the day.
I tend to keep a sanitizer in each back we bring, plus now that we have a stroller, we will keep one in the cup holder of the stroller for quick and easy access while walking around. I also always bring little packs of Clorox wipes to wipe down tables before we sit to eat.
Disney is no longer including Magic bands with resort packages but they are still for sale online and in the parks. Anyone can link them to their tickets whether you are staying on or off Disney property!
Magic bands are especially nice because they require you to touch less stuff! You can scan into your room, park or for fastpasses (not available at this time) and you don’t have to dig through your bag with your germy hands to find your ticket card or cell phone.
Another great thing that I totally recommend using your magic band for is purchases! Whether you are on the dining plan or not(also not available currently), you can use your magic band for food purchases by linking your credit card and using a PIN number you set. You can also make purchases at all the Disney gift shops too!
Frozen water to be more specific! I know many people will use Disney Quick Service locations to grab a free ice water but in times like these, less contact with others is most likely the goal!
My family has always packed frozen drinks in our park bags so that they slowly melt in the Florida heat and we have cold drinks for a good portion of the day. We have taken frozen water, lemonade and ice tea with us and an added bonus is it keeps your back nice and cool when it’s in your bag!
This option works great if you have a rental house or one of the rooms at Disney with a full refrigerator. But we have also made it work in the mini fridges too!!
Now onto the typical items!
Don’t get caught in that Florida rain without a poncho! Sometimes the rain is on going and you can’t just wait it out inside for a bit. So don’t be soaked and miserable, come prepared!
This all depends on your gadgets but if you have a camera or a fan that takes batteries, pack them! We had a heck of a time finding AA batteries one year in Epcot…and if you think batteries are expensive at your local Walmart, you don’t want see the price at Disney!
Speaking of gadgets, don’t forget your camera! Whether this is a real camera with a good lens or your cell phone, be sure to squeeze it in your park bag!
Sunglasses or Hat
One of these is a must! I could not imagine squinting in the Florida sun all day! If you are a mouse ear hat or Minnie ears kinda person, then definitely opt for the sunglasses!
Bring some of the essentials, you never know when a Minnie ear headache will kick in or some spicy food will give you heartburn. I always bring along Tylenol or ibuprofen, Pepcid and Benadryl.
It may also be a good idea to have some band aids and neosporin on hand. Of course you can get this at the first aide locations but if you have it on hand you won’t have to trek all the way there in pain.
Things you don’t need this year
Unfortunately autograph books will not be necessary to take up space in those 2021 Disney day bags this year. I know.. Sigh. But this is all the more reason to have that camera (with batteries) or a charged phone on hand!! Because you just never know when the characters are going to pop up right now, which just might add to the magic!
What do you think? Did I hit all the essentials? If not, what else are you planning to pack in your 2021 Disney day bag during COVID? I would love to hear!
